RELAY:STONEHENGE
As dusk falls, seven impressive panels arranged in a circle light up. Welcome to Stonehenge Relay. This light and sound work by Enric Monfort and Touki Delphine for Black Pencil is inspired by the original gatherings at Stonehenge in England, which ivnvited people to celebrate the transition from summer to winter, from light to darkness.
This “sanctuary” for introspection and reflection creates a unique circular space where you can connect with others and at the same time be alone with your thoughts. Enric Monfort’s composition combines different sounds and lights from hundreds of relay motors with the instruments of Black Pencil, with the sound
being circulated by means of different speakers around the audience, creating an immersive audio-visual experience. These 1848 recycled relay motors, mounted in corrugated steel panels, that click and hum independently of each other, were created by Touki Delphine for their previous project Relay (2021).
Stonehenge Relay acts as a gathering point that encourages us to come together, reflect and enjoy the beauty that this shared experience produces. It encourages us to celebrate the magic of togetherness through light and sound.
